It may be happened for different reasons such as virus attack, default switch on the USB drive. Actually, USB drives are mostly known as Pen drives, SD cards, External hard drives and Card readers etc.
USB means Universal Serial Bus. Sometimes, somehow these USB drives become under "write protection". It works like a fence which prohibits users to be in. As a result, users can lose their necessary data. There are some ways to resolve this problem. Let’s have a look…
Write protected USB problems
USB drive that is write protected causes many causalities in users PC. It hampers both sides. First, it can delete all the data in it. Second, it works like a virus for PC if this problem is not resolved. So it is very important to remove the write protection.
Way -1 :
The first way is that, turn off the physical button if it is visible and working for USB’s protection. This is not applicable for all the USB devices like SD card. This is only applicable on which devices have the default protection button. If have, turn the button in other side and try to access the device again.
Way-2:If the first step is failed to resolve the problem, apply the second. In this step, you are gonna check virus attack possibility of the USB device by any reliable antivirus software. Scan the USB device with the antivirus and analyze the result after completing the process. You can use the free antivirus software like 360 Total Security. You can download one from here Top 5 reliable free antivirus software.
Way-3:Sometimes data can be locked by USB drive’s own security system. If it happened, follow this step. Click right button on the USB device and then properties. In the properties window, select the security tab and then user under the username and check the permissions. If there have Write or Full permissions, it’s ok. But if any of these missing, select one. Now try again to access the device.
Way-4:
If all the three steps are failed, try this step. You’re gonna fix this problem using Windows Command Prompt. So press on “R” button from keyboard holding “Windows key” or search on the search bar typing CMD. After opening the command prompt, type the following lines in below.
Diskpart [ Press ‘Enter’]List disk [ Press ‘Enter’]Select disk # ( # is the USB drive number what you’ve plugged in) [ Press ‘Enter’]Attributes disk clear readonly [ Press ‘Enter’]Exit [ Press ‘Enter’]
After performing this action, check again the USB drive if it is being accessed or not. If not, move to the next step.
Way-5:
In this step, you have to use a tool which names “HDD Low-level format tool” to perform a low-level format on the write protected USB drive.Download and Install this tool and execute low-level format on the USB device. After this, you may be asked to create a partition on the USB drive. To do this, go to "Run" and type “diskmgmt.msc” and click on enter. In the disk management right click on the USB device and select format and click on it. Your task is end as soon as completing the formatting process. So now check again the USB device and I hope write protection has been removed.
